HIS MISSION AND APPROACH

Hi, I’m Geoff Johnson, founder of Backcountry Wellness. I started this practice because I know how hard it can be to talk about personal struggles, especially when you don’t know where to start. That’s what Backcountry Wellness is all about: combining traditional counselling with the grounding power of nature—so you can explore what’s on your mind in a space that feels open, safe, and pressure-free.

Why Choose

Nature-Based Therapy

OUTDOOR COUNSELLING IN SALMON ARM

Salmon Arm is a hidden gem for outdoor counselling, where the stillness of Shuswap Lake and the surrounding wilderness create a powerful space for healing and growth. Teens can reconnect with themselves and others through nature-based activities that inspire confidence, reduce stress, and encourage reflection in a welcoming outdoor environment.

WHY SALMON ARM IS PERFECT FOR NATURE-BASED THERAPY

  • Shuswap Serenity: The gentle waves of Shuswap Lake and peaceful forest trails set a calming tone for self-discovery.

  • Nature All Year Long: Paddle the lake in summer, hike to hidden waterfalls in fall, or snowshoe through tranquil woods in winter—Salmon Arm’s beauty evolves with the seasons.

  • Iconic Outdoor Spots: Margaret Falls, Larch Hills, and the Salmon Arm Wharf offer unique, immersive experiences for personal growth.

  • Holistic Healing: The blend of water, wilderness, and wildlife provides the perfect atmosphere for grounding, mindfulness, and emotional connection.

How It Works

Step 1

Meet & Greet

We start with a comfortable, informal meet-and-greet with both the teen and their parents, setting the stage for a successful journey.

Step 2

Outdoor Adventures

Through small group outings-hiking, paddleboarding, and more-teens experience growth, build resilience, and make new friends in a relaxed and engaging enviroment.

Step 3

One-on-One Counselling

Complementing group activities with private sessions, Geoff provides personalized support for each teen to work through their challenges in a safe space.

Testimonial

Quotes from both parents and teens highlighting positive experiences and outcomes

Geoff made me feel truly heard and supported, always respecting my privacy and creating a safe space where I could be myself. I always knew I could trust him to listen without judgment and to help me in a way that was ethical, caring, and professional.

Geoff connected with our teen in a way that felt both natural and meaningful, whether they were talking in the office or out in nature, his approach was always respectful and relevant to our family’s needs, and it was clear he truly understands the challenges parents and teens face.

Geoff made it easy to open up because I always knew what I said stayed confidential. I could trust him to really listen and help without judging, which made a huge difference for me.
