HIS MISSION AND APPROACH
Hi, I’m Geoff Johnson, founder of Backcountry Wellness. I started this practice because I know how hard it can be to talk about personal struggles, especially when you don’t know where to start. That’s what Backcountry Wellness is all about: combining traditional counselling with the grounding power of nature—so you can explore what’s on your mind in a space that feels open, safe, and pressure-free.
Why Choose
Nature-Based Therapy

OUTDOOR COUNSELLING IN KAMLOOPS
Kamloops’ rugged landscapes and expansive natural spaces offer the perfect setting for outdoor counselling. By combining nature, physical activity, and social connection, this approach helps teens build confidence, reduce anxiety, and foster personal growth in a supportive and inspiring environment.
WHY KAMLOOPS IS PERFECT FOR NATURE-BASED THERAPY
-
Diverse Terrain: Rolling hills, river valleys, and desert-like scenery provide a unique and tranquil backdrop.
-
Seasonal Activities: From hiking and biking in summer to snowshoeing in winter, Kamloops offers year-round therapeutic adventures.
-
Scenic Trails: Explore spaces like Kenna Cartwright Park and Riverside Park for peaceful, reflective walks.
-
Connection to Nature: Wide-open spaces and serene landscapes encourage mindfulness and emotional grounding.

How It Works
Step 1
Meet & Greet
We start with a comfortable, informal meet-and-greet with both the teen and their parents, setting the stage for a successful journey.
Step 2
Outdoor Adventures
Through small group outings-hiking, paddleboarding, and more-teens experience growth, build resilience, and make new friends in a relaxed and engaging enviroment.
Step 3
One-on-One Counselling
Complementing group activities with private sessions, Geoff provides personalized support for each teen to work through their challenges in a safe space.

Includes initial meet and greet with both the teen and parents to set goals and expectations
Nature-based seasonal activities like hiking, paddleboarding, snowshoeing
Small group outings that foster friendships and social skills

Traditional Counselling
Initial meet and greet with both the teen and parents is often absent or limited

Therapy sessions can feel restrictive or "clinical"
Testimonial
Quotes from both parents and teens highlighting positive experiences and outcomes
Geoff made me feel truly heard and supported, always respecting my privacy and creating a safe space where I could be myself. I always knew I could trust him to listen without judgment and to help me in a way that was ethical, caring, and professional.
Geoff connected with our teen in a way that felt both natural and meaningful, whether they were talking in the office or out in nature, his approach was always respectful and relevant to our family’s needs, and it was clear he truly understands the challenges parents and teens face.
Geoff made it easy to open up because I always knew what I said stayed confidential. I could trust him to really listen and help without judging, which made a huge difference for me.
